Bated Breath

Here are worship materials for the 7th Sunday of Eastertide.

Call to Worship Psalm 98 Adapted

One: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; All: break forth into joyous song and sing praises. One: Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. All: With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

One: Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. All: Let the floods clap their hands;

One: let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the Lord,

for he is coming to judge the earth. All: He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

One: So it may be as we now proclaim in greeting one another,

“The peace of God be with you.”

All: And also with you.

Prayer of Invocation

Living God, on this Sunday following the ascension of your Son, we recognize that you are in no one place so that you might be in every place, we remember that you don’t belong to the world but that the world belongs to you, and we pray that we may live in steadfast and resilient faith, sent out as your beloved friends to spread your Holy Spirit and loving will though to a world you’ve left.

We pray this often bereft of your immediate presence, lonely for your wisdom and guidance. We pray this often overwhelmed as to what’s right or confused as to how to follow in your way. Your word still speaks, though in tones harder to hear than when you walked with those first friends, your earliest disciples.

Yet you love the world into which you send us each and all. You yet create and sustain in love this whole world of many countless moving parts. Though mired in sin, this created order also manifests your beauty and glory, your power and vulnerability. Though we are mired in sin, we also manifest your wonder and grace, your wisdom and mystery.

Bless us, then, to be sent into this world in courageous hope. Bless us to be sent as friends living in your light and living forth your love. Grant that we may walk in your way, a blessing as we are so blessed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
