Here are worship materials for the 12th Sunday after Pentecost.
Call to Worship Psalm 111 Adapted
One: Praise the LORD!
All: I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation. One: Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them. All: Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. One: He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the LORD is gracious and merciful. All: He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant. One: He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations. All: The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. One: They are established forever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. All: He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever.
One: Holy and awesome is his name. All: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
One: His praise endures forever, in which praise it is true,
what we proclaim in greeting one another, “The peace of the Lord be with you.”
All: And also with you.
Prayer of Invocation (in unison) Karl Barth adapt.20th c.
O Lord our God, you know who we are: people with clear consciences and people clouded, persons who are content and those who are discontented, the certain and the uncertain, Christians by conviction and Christians by convention, those who believe and those who half-believe, those who disbelieve.
And you know where we have come from: from the circle of relatives, acquaintances, and friends, or from the greatest loneliness; from a life of quiet prosperity, or from manifold confusion and distress; from family relationships that are well ordered or from those disordered or under stress; from the inner circle of Christian community or from its outer edge.
But now we all stand before you, in all our differences, yet alike in that we are all in the wrong with you and with one another, that we must all one day die, that we would be lost without your grace, but also in that your grace is promised and made available to us all in your dear Son, Jesus Christ, who meets us at our worst and returns to us in love and peace that we might be redeemed so to live forever with you in glory. It is in his Holy Spirit that we gather for worship and in his name we pray. Amen.
