HUNGER BRIGADES HIT THE STREETS: SATURDAYS IN SEPTEMBER

Interfaith volunteers to collect funds on Park Square and Berkshire Crossing

PITTSFIELD, MA: “The citizens of Berkshire County have been generous and compassionate in their support of the CROP Hunger Walks” said co-chair Barbara Johnson. The street brigades will gather donations each Saturday in September in support of the October 1, 2017 CROP Hunger Walk. Volunteers with buckets will collect donations at the Park Square and Berkshire Crossing intersections. “People want to help – and they love to see us take to the streets again!” To volunteer, contact John Levesque at 413-281-8187 or rames@albany.twcbc.com for dates and times.

The annual CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 1, begins with registration at 1:00 p.m. at First Church of Christ on Park Square (27 East Street). Walkers will follow a two-mile loop on North and South Streets, returning to First Church for refreshments.

Pittsfield and some 1,000 other communities nationwide are joining together in interfaith CROP Hunger Walks around the theme “Ending hunger one step at a time.” Many of the Walkers will wear vests proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who have to walk to live — as well as the millions served by local food pantries, food banks, and meal sites here in the U.S. A portion (25%) of the funds raised in Pittsfield will go to The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, supporting local food pantries and food programs in Berkshire County.

From combating droughts in Nicaragua to providing agricultural training in Indonesia to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries across the United States, CROP Hunger Walks are fighting hunger. This is the 12th annual CROP Walk in Pittsfield co-sponsored by Interfaith groups working together. The CROP Hunger Walks are a program of Church World Service (CWS), an ecumenical interfaith cooperative ministry. If you would like more information or would like to interview the Co-Chairs, please contact Dick Noble (413-441-4357) or Barbara Johnson (413-841-2148).
